Full disclosure: Stampo is our app, and it's in this comparison. To keep ourselves honest, every competitor fact on this page — ratings, prices, features — comes from each app's own public US App Store listing, checked on July 4, 2026, and every listing is linked below so you can verify in one tap. Stampo is new (released June 2026) and has no public star rating yet — the other apps here have real rating histories, and we show them.

The pricing trap to watch: weekly subscriptions
Most stamp scanner apps are free to download and monetize with a subscription — and the pattern across this category is a cheap-sounding weekly plan next to a pricier annual one. A $4.99/week plan costs about $260 a year if you forget to cancel; $6.99/week is roughly $363 a year. If you only need to sort one inherited album, use a weekly plan deliberately and cancel it — or pick an annual plan and treat it as the real price.
Stampo deliberately has no weekly plan: one Annual Subscription at $14.99/year — the lowest annual price in this comparison — and the free download lets you try identification before paying anything.
Each app, honestly
Stampo (ours)
Stamp Value Identifier: Stampo identifies a stamp from one photo — country, year, denomination, catalog number — then gives an estimated value range by condition and saves it to your collection. Two things we do differently: our value figures follow the same honest, condition-tiered approach as our stamp value guides (most stamps are genuinely worth very little, and an app that pretends otherwise is lying to you), and we charge one flat $14.99/year. The honest trade-off: Stampo is the newest app here (June 2026), so it has no public rating history yet.
StampSnap - Stamp Identifier
StampSnap - Stamp Identifier by TECHFLINES JOINT STOCK COMPANY — 3.9★ from 327 ratings, on the store since 2024, last updated 2026-04-08 (v 5.1).
- Good: One of the longer-running AI stamp scanners (on the store since March 2024, now on version 5.1).
- Good: Offers a one-time Lifetime purchase ($34.99) — an option Stampo doesn't have.
- Good: Runs on older devices (iOS 14+) and on Apple Silicon Macs and Vision Pro.
- Consider: Its 3.9-star average (327 ratings) is the lowest among the major stamp scanners on this page.
- Consider: The $6.99 weekly plan works out to about $363 a year if left running — check which plan you're on before subscribing.
- Consider: English only.
PhilSnap: Stamp ID & Values
PhilSnap: Stamp ID & Values by Next Vision Limited — 4.7★ from 1,872 ratings, on the store since 2025, last updated 2026-04-08 (v 1.4.1).
- Good: The highest-rated dedicated stamp scanner in this comparison — 4.7 stars across 1,872 ratings.
- Good: Its listing emphasizes condition-based price ranges and grading tips, a genuinely useful framing.
- Consider: Its public In-App Purchases list shows two 'PhilSnap Premium' prices ($3.99 and $39.99) without stating the billing periods — check the paywall carefully before subscribing.
- Consider: If the $39.99 tier is the annual plan, it is more than twice Stampo's $14.99 annual price.
- Consider: Needs iOS 16 or later; English only.
Stamp Value Stamp Identifier
Stamp Value Stamp Identifier by Ngoc Anh Pham Thi — 4.6★ from 3,174 ratings, on the store since 2024, last updated 2026-07-02 (v 1.6.0).
- Good: The most-reviewed dedicated stamp scanner in this comparison (3,174 ratings, 4.6 stars).
- Good: Actively maintained — updated two days before our check date.
- Consider: PRO YEARLY costs $39.99 — over 2.5× Stampo's $14.99 annual plan.
- Consider: The $4.99 weekly plan compounds to roughly $260 a year if left running.
- Consider: English only.
Stampy: Stamp Value Identifier
Stampy: Stamp Value Identifier by Kiryl Nazarau — 4.6★ from 71 ratings, on the store since 2024, last updated 2026-06-05 (v 2.1.0).
- Good: The only app in this comparison localized beyond English — 15 languages.
- Good: Well rated (4.6 stars), though from a small base of 71 ratings.
- Consider: Its IAP list shows several overlapping plans ($19.99 and $29.99 both appear for a year) — verify the exact offer on the paywall.
- Consider: The $79.99 lifetime plan is the most expensive single purchase in this comparison.
Stamp ID Pro™: Collect Stamps
Stamp ID Pro™: Collect Stamps by Distal Industries, LLC — 4.4★ from 303 ratings, on the store since 2019, last updated 2025-06-29 (v 5.0.4).
- Good: The veteran of the category — on the App Store since 2019.
- Good: A methodical wizard approach US specialists may prefer over pure AI guessing.
- Good: A cheap one-time Full Version option ($9.99).
- Consider: US stamps only — no worldwide identification, so an inherited mixed album is out of scope.
- Consider: Identification-focused: its listing centres on identifying the stamp, not estimating what it's worth.
How we compared (methodology)
- All facts were read from each app's public US App Store listing on July 4, 2026 — ratings and counts as Apple displays them, prices from the listing's "In-App Purchases" section, features from each app's own description.
- We did not install and lab-test every competitor; feature rows are each app's own claims, marked as such.
- Ratings move and prices change. If you spot something outdated, check the linked listing — it always wins — and tell us so we can fix it.
- Also worth knowing: Colnect and StampWorld are huge web-based stamp catalogs rather than photo-identifier apps — great reference databases once you already know what stamp you're holding.
